Big things are coming.

Ever since we got our family allotment, my wife has had a dream of what the plot should be like. I do my best to bring that vision to life, but there has always been one missing piece ' a Polytunnel ' . We have had one of those Ebay green type Polytunnels which lasted a year before the weather got the better of it. But the dream has always been to have what we call a proper one. The sort of tunnel you see when driving in the countryside. We have for the last few years, kept a section of the plot clear, telling ourselves this is where the tunnel will go, when the time comes.

Like most young families, we don't find ourselves having too much spare cash. This meant our dream of a tunnel would be put on the back burner. We know that this is an investment. That this tunnel will bring so much more to the plot. 365 days, 52 weeks of the year, come rain or shine! A whole new world. Our friends at Northern Polytunnels are joining us on our amazing journey, and we cannot wait to share this with you all and make our vision come true. We can't explain how excited we are about building this Polytunnel. The kit looks very easy to build! Time will tell. We will be reviewing every step of the way, what works and if something doesn’t that too! The kids have told us they would love a hammock and a paddling pool in the tunnel. Their ideas are endless! Not quite sure there will be room amongst the Tomatoes. Speaking of which we are now 17 varieties and counting…..

The tunnel is a brilliant 12ft wide by 20ft long with a sliding main door and a vent at the rear. I will be making a video of the assembly so we can all see how the build goes. I am going to be documenting our whole journey with the tunnel from build to plate and all that's in between. If you want to find out more on the tunnel Head over to their website. My nerdy DIY self loves the spec on these tunnels. All those years of building Meccano as a child has finally paid off.

The photograph above shows the planning i have started on the inside layout of the tunnel minus a paddling pool. I am not sure yet if we should have maximum growing space, make some room for seedlings, or even have a seating area for the family to relax and share the occasional meal. Our children have insisted fairy lights are a must!

This photograph shows how we are planning a bed that will run parallel to the tunnel. This will be for flowers as well as veg. The bed will be on three levels with flowers on this top level.

We are so excited about this as it changes our whole growing season. If you don't know the benefits of having a tunnel I will be being blogging over the year but, for now I will just say as above having a tunnel is an investment that will continue to reward us season after season. We can't wait to share our Journey with you all…..
