Cold Frame

We haven't had a cold frame on our plot and to be honest i haven't noticed a need for one. But the wife wants one and i enjoy building things so i thought I would make one out of the strap materias from an old greenhouse and some pallets.

As i am using the greenhouse door as the main window and opening on the cold frame I will be taking all measurements off that and building the frame to match.

It was as simple as making the back of the cold frame 3 pallet lats high and the front panel 2 and a half. Then making the sides with a slope the line it all up.

The next stage was to mount the greenhouse door. Lucky I had some old gate hinges knocking around in the shed.

The last things I did were to mount the glass, which to be honest i will change to plastic in the future, for weight and safety reasons. Then I added a handle to help with opening.

I need to now figure out how to keep it open and also how to stop it from slamming shut.

It was as simple as making the back out of 4 rows of pallet lats and the from out of 3.
